Sibos is the world’s premier financial services event organised by the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (SWIFT). It is hosted in various locations around the world, most frequently in European cities such as Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Berlin, and Helsinki. In recent years, it has also been held more often in Asia, Oceania, and other global regions.
As with most other planned events in 2020, this year Sibos will be held exclusively online. The free event, which connects more than 8,000 executives, decision-makers and thought leaders from across the financial services industry, will take place from 5-8 October 2020 online before returning to Singapore in 2021.
The inaugural Sibos conference was held in 1978 in Brussels with its highest turnout of 9,600 participants during its 2010 edition in Amsterdam. For this year’s event, an updated Sibos App (which will be released shortly) allows participants to attend and interact during sessions, and to enable online networking with other delegates.
Featuring the world’s leading experts in banking, payments, securities services, technology, FX and more, the theme of Sibos 2020 will be driving the evolution of smart finance. The programme will include high-quality sessions exploring how the financial industry can make better decisions and run smarter businesses while optimising technology and data.
The ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, geopolitical trends, climate change movements and social mobilisation that are driving change across the globe are also on the agenda for discussion at Sibos 2020. Other talking points include how regulatory change is developing, the evolving workplace, the role of data, and our responsibility to future inhabitants of the planet.
