In homage to the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, Selfridges brings the Bard’s works to life in a series of store front windows. Titled ReFashioned, the project will also see an updated production of Much Ado About Nothing staged in the store.
Starting on July 4, the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art will hold a two-week residency at the landmark shop. They will also be offering customers feedback and production technique workshops.
The windows will feature designs from 20 major designers including Rick Owens, Dries Van Noten and Simone Rocha whom have all created one-offs for the occasion. Each window will be themed with a play, evoking the essence of various Shakespearian themes and characters.
The “Light” theme which will feature elements from the playwright’s comedies will run throughout the summer. The “Dark” theme, focusing on his tragedies, will aptly run throughout the fall.
