While Cognac aficionados are familiar with terms like VS, VSOP, XO, and vintage, there is much more to uncover about these rare and exceptional cognacs that set them apart from their counterparts. This article delves into rare bottles offered by ten respected brands, revealing the distinctive characteristics and unparalleled craftsmanship that make each unique.

REMY MARTIN
Rémy Martin Louis XIII Time Collection Cognac

Rémy Martin Louis XIII Time Collection Cognac is a series of genuinely exclusive limited editions that pay homage to the illustrious history of Louis XIII. The inaugural release, entitled “The Origin – 1874,” marks the beginning of this extraordinary collection.

Each edition of this unique cognac narrates a chapter in the remarkable story of Louis XIII. From winning awards at the Paris World Fair in 1900 to gracing the fabled Orient Express train in 1929, and from inaugurating the SS Normandie in 1939 to celebrating the visit of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth at Versailles in 1938, Louis XIII has witnessed significant moments throughout history. It symbolises the liberation of France with Charles de Gaulle in 1944 and even boarded Concorde, breaking the sound barrier in 1984.

“The Origin – 1874” draws inspiration from a design created by Paul-Émile Rémy Martin in 1874. This unique decanter design originated when Paul-Émile acquired an ancient royal flask discovered by a farmer in a field near Jarnac, Cognac, the site of an ancient historic battle. The decanter is meticulously crafted from pure Saint-Louis Crystal, adorned with 13 dentelle spikes and a distinct upturned decanter stopper. The neck and collar seal features a captivating champagne-gold hue, while an elegant metal case houses the decanter, bearing a sleek woven texture reminiscent of the wicker baskets used to deliver the original bottles of Louis XIII Cognacs.

The exquisite cognac within is a masterful blend of 1,200 different eaux-de-vie sourced exclusively from the Grande Champagne terroir. It reveals a captivating nose of floral aromas, delicate perfume of peaches and melon, and enticing marzipan nuttiness complemented by honey.

On the palate, flavours of almonds, peaches, orange, wood spices, cinnamon, and orange blossom unfold, creating a pleasant and indulgent experience. The finish is truly satisfying, with lingering sweet oak spices, delicate grapes, and floral notes that leave a lasting impression.
