During the summer months, tree or weed pollen can cause allergies which for many, are an unfortunate daily irritation. Ananda Spa reveals how yoga practices make a practical way to help relieve allergy symtoms and the stress associated with them.

Sometimes the immune system identifies foreign bodies as harmful, even though they aren’t. Common allergens include dust, pollen and pet hair. Typical mild overreactions include skin irritation, watery eyes, or sneezing.

The increase in allergies over the years has been attributed to the rise in consumption of processed food, poor air quality and genetics. According to Ananda Spa, a number of experiments have revealed that allergies can be improved by practising daily yoga.

“Yoga is a great and effective stress management technique. It helps you relax and control your mind and emotions, consequently facilitating in the control of your allergic reaction,” explains Shambhu Kumar, yoga guru at Ananda in The Himalayas.

Shambhu Kumar recommends the following yoga positions to help manage and relieve allergy symptoms and associated breathing difficulties:

Tadasana
Improves concentration of mind and develop a sense of balance.

Surya Namaskar
Energizes the entire neuro-glandular and neuro-muscular system of the body.

Bhujangasana
Expands the chest more than usual, helping to improve breathing.

Paschitmoasana
Tones all the abdominal organs, including the liver, pancreas, spleen, kidney and adrenal glands to help mental calmness.
